The Operational Research Society of India was founded in 1957 to provide a forum for the Operational Research (OR) analysts to share their expertise and widen their knowledge in application of OR in multi-disciplinary arena. It has its headquarters in Kolkata and is managed by a duly elected governing Council. ORSI has many Chapters in different parts of the country. ORSI conducts graduate examination once in a year at several centres in India and this graduateship examination is recognized by MHRD, Govt. of India. The ORSI publishes a quarterly flagship journal OPSEARCH under co-publication arrangement with Springer. The Society is affiliated with the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS).

Operational Research Society of India - Madurai Chapter was founded in 2007. The objective of this chapter is to promote applications of OR and disseminate knowledge to the students and practitioners in and around Madurai. This chapter frequently organizes lecture topics in the emerging areas of OR.
